Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that a cup of green tea goes a long way. This life carries with it an often cumbersome focus on doing the most, in many different facets, all at once. And the natural byproduct of that is? You guessed it, unnecessary stress. Something I’ve covered previously on this site.
Though stress is an important subject, I don’t want to necessarily focus on stress today. We all know it exists and that, if left unchecked, it can have negative, and even dangerous, effects on our minds and bodies.
Instead, I’d like to turn our attention to the wonders of green tea, a very popular product that can be used for many things, including alleviating some stress.
Greens tea isn’t necessarily a miracle in the form of ground up leaves, but it is a readily-accessible product that offers our bodies help in a myriad of ways, including combating cardiovascular disease, cancer, type two diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression, to name a few. It also has been known to positively affect brain health, weight loss, blood sugar levels, immunity, cholesterol, metabolism, blood pressure, bone health, and liver function.
It helps with so many things, yet all that is necessary to receive its benefits is about eight ounces of piping hot water, a heat-safe container, an individual bag of green tea, and a few minutes to allow the tea to steep in the water. Rather simple, and certainly a huge plus in a world that seems bent on moving further and further away from things that are simple.
As with just about anything, green tea does have at least one concerning quality—the caffeine that it naturally contains. Though many people seek to consume caffeine, and do so without experiencing any noticeable side effects, some people are more sensitive to caffeine, and thus need to be extra careful with it. It is generally believed that eight ounces of brewed green tea contains a safe amount of caffeine (30 – 50 mg) compared to the 70 – 140 mg of caffeine typically contained in eight ounces of brewed coffee, however, those with caffeine sensitivity should take care when consuming it.
I tend to enjoy a cup of green tea with a little honey, sugar, agave, or creamer. It’s a nice way to remind myself to take a few minutes out of my day and slow down a little, remembering that a little relaxation coupled with the natural positive effects of green tea consumption can greatly benefit me in ways that I might not even be able to fully measure.
How about you? Do you enjoy a good cup of green tea? I look forward to hearing about it. Be blessed. #lovebythedrop
