Today’s Gem of Gratitude #161

Today I am thankful for iTunes. ITunes is my one stop shopping place for just about everything electronic that I could possibly need. Whether I am in the market for a great book, a new song, an entertaining podcast, or a thrilling movie, iTunes generally has what I am looking for.

People can say whatever they want to say about iTunes, but it’s so easy to navigate, it’s built into all of my electronic devices, and it is incorporated into many of the applications that I use on my devices.

One of the many aspects of iTunes that I appreciate the most is the fact that I can immediately access and download just about anything that I want at the drop of a hat. I appreciate the fact that I can hear a song that captures my attention playing on the radio or on television, use the Soundhound application to identify it, and then click a link within the Soundhound application that takes me directly to iTunes so that I can purchase the song. What could be easier and more efficient than that?

I admit, though, that the ease of using iTunes is not without its drawbacks, namely the fact that the ease of using iTunes can help fuel a person’s desire for instant gratification, and it can cause that desire to develop where it has not previously existed. Drawbacks and all, though, iTunes is still a blessing for which I am very thankful, and I am fairly certain that many of you are thankful for it too. #lovebythedrop

Today I am thankful for planes. Though I am not a fan of flying on planes, I do appreciate the fact that planes can drastically reduce the time needed for travel. And though I thoroughly enjoy taking road trips (which you can read more about here), there are times when I absolutely want and need to arrive at my destination sooner rather than later, especially when there are many miles between me and my destination, or I have a rather short time span within which to arrive at my destination.

In times such as those, the ability to jump on a plane and reduce my travel time by on average anywhere from 50 to 90% is a clear benefit that, in my opinion, outweighs my concerns about flying. Besides, with the advent of electronic music players (read more here), tablets, and notebooks (read more here), I have more than enough products at my disposal to keep me entertained long enough to survive a flight. After all, with many flights in this day and age requiring as little as 1-3 hours, I typically arrive at my destination before I can even get used to being in the air. And that definitely works for me. #lovebythedrop

Today I am thankful for electronic music players. I previously shared here how much I love and appreciate music. Music is such a calming, relaxing element in my life that I enjoy listening to it everywhere that I go.

Prior to the invention of what we consider to be modern electronic music players, I used to carry my CDs in the car with me. I say CDs because in addition to enjoying music in general I also like to listen to different genres of music created by various music artists, and oftentimes the decision of which song or genre of music that I listen to is based on my mood and how I feel at that particular moment. With that said, oftentimes I am not sure as to what I will want to listen to from one moment to the next. So, I make it a point to bring a selection of music with me. Years ago that meant carrying a stack of CDs with me, but now all of my music fits neatly onto my electronic music player, which is portable enough to travel with me wherever I go.

This ability to access all of my music from anywhere allows me to add a bit of enjoyment to just about every situation. And when I find myself waiting for a meeting or an appointment because I am early, or even waiting for loved ones to arrive for dinner at a restaurant, and I do not feel like reading, I can easily put my earbuds into my ears and enjoy the wonderful sounds of Vanessa Mae, Anthony Hamilton, or Ledisi, to name a few, while time passes.

No matter what I am doing, where I am going, I can carry music with me. And whether I need to be entertained, consoled, or simply distracted from certain events of any given day, music is there to aid, soothe, and comfort the soul. #lovebythedrop
