Today’s Gem of Insight #101

Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that jealousy does not become us. Jealousy is a sign of insecurity and a lack of faith, and, if not dealt with promptly and properly, it can produce long-lasting, debilitating, and crippling effects.

It is pretty safe to say that we have all had moments when we have allowed jealousy to have an effect on us, whether for long periods of time or short ones. And it’s also probably safe to say that we did not enjoy the experience of being jealous in the least bit.

The good thing about realizing what jealousy is, what it can do to us and our lives, as well as how it makes us feel, though, is that we are in the position to make a knowledgeable decision whether or not to give into the coaxing of jealousy in the future, because we already know what it’s like to head down that path.

Knowing the truth about jealousy will not necessarily make it any easier to say “no” to jealousy, but it just may help us to do our best job of avoiding situations and circumstances that might yield to jealousy an open door into our lives. It all comes down to us and what we choose to do, and if we make well-informed and appropriate decisions, jealousy will have no choice but to look at us from afar and keep moving on down the road. #lovebythedrop

Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that chivalry is not dead, it simply has been widely abandoned. I have heard numerous women laugh and shake their heads as if to demonstrate their utter disbelief when anyone has mentioned chivalry. They laugh because chivalry has become so far removed from our society that many of them have never experienced it. Yes, that’s right. Never. For some reason many individuals have laid it down as though it were some outdated pair of shoes and replaced it with nonchalance and indifference.

However, there is a remnant of mature men who have committed themselves to keeping chivalry alive. They may be few and far between, but the important thing is that they exist. And unfortunately because so many individuals have discarded chivalry, those men who do exhibit chivalry are often overlooked and under appreciated. So, I encourage each and every one of us ladies to honor and appreciate the men in our lives who embrace and exhibit a chivalrous lifestyle. May we never forget to give honor when honor is due. #lovebythedrop

Today’s Gem of Gratitude #33

Today I am thankful for rain showers. And now that I live in a place where it does not rain that often, I have come to appreciate rain showers even more. Now, when I say that I like rain showers I am referring to just that, rain showers, not thunderstorms, hurricanes, microbursts or any other weather phenomena that may be even remotely similar. What is it that I like about rain showers exactly? I like the soothing nature of the rain, the way that it gently massages you when you run through it. I appreciate the way that it cleanses the earth and washes the dirt away from places that it should not be. I like the way that rain showers tend to bring with them cooler air. And I love the way that the sound of the rain is peaceful enough to lull me to sleep.

When it rains and I have no plans to leave home, I enjoy curling up in my bed with a great book, some hot tea or hot chocolate and spending the day relaxing and reading about worlds that are different than mine. I also like to devote some of that time to writing for personal reasons, as opposed to writing for professional reasons. Sometimes I even enjoy looking out of the windows and watching the people who are walking or sprinting by, as I imagine who they are, what their lives are like, and where they might be going – like the lady in the large candy apple red floppy sun hat and gray Loubies, the young couple huddling together under an outstretched section of the newspaper, and the young college coed chasing a dalmatian that is taking full advantage of this opportunity to run full speed, leash flying in the wind behind it. Days like that are priceless treasures that I try to take full advantage of when I can.

No matter what the rain showers bring with them there is always a story to be discovered and experienced. The next time that it rains where you are you might want to keep an eye out for a story of your own. You just may find that you are pleasantly surprised at the vast world that unfolds right before your eyes. #lovebythedrop
