Today I am thankful for the ability to express myself freely and to be heard. Today I happened to be talking with a colleague about some of the experiences that we have had on the paths that have led us to this point in our lives. We discussed some of the experiences that we have had in common, as well as some that are unique to each of us.
During the course of our conversation he said something that resonated with me. He told me that when I speak people listen. When he said that, I immediately responded by saying, “really?” I had no idea that anyone felt that way about me, I had no idea that people really listen to me and hear me. He then responded by sharing more encouraging words with me, and I was immediately rejuvenated by the positive feedback that I received from him.
I think that being able to express oneself and to be heard are fundamental needs that most, if not all, human beings possess – we want to know that we can share our opinions, concerns, and desires, and that those with whom we share these parts of ourselves will take the time to listen to us and take into consideration the information that we share with them.
I am very fortunate to have people in my life who honor me by listening to me and hearing the personal expressions of who I am and what is important and relevant to me. And that is something that I wish for everyone in this world. #lovebythedrop
