Today’s Gem of Gratitude #236

Today I am thankful for my parents. I am truly blessed to have a mother and a father who love me and have my best interest at heart. I have come to realize that not many people can really say that truthfully.

Some of my friends and other people whom I have had the privilege to get to know have shared with me some of the challenges that they have experienced in regards to their families, everything from parents who have abandoned them to parents and other family members who have taken advantage of them and attempted to control them. And I could sense a little of the misery that they had experienced and I could feel some of their pain just from listening to them recount their experiences to me. Though I do not believe in comparing myself or my life to other people and their lives, in those moments I could not help but to realize how fortunate I am to have been spared many of the challenges that they have experienced.

Now I am certain that my parents will tell you that they are far from perfect and that they have made their fair share of not so great decisions, and I certainly would not seek to give you the impression that I think that they are perfect. Yet, though my parents are, as are all of us, fallible creatures they have not allowed themselves to be complacent when it has come to parenting me. And for that I am eternally grateful.

Many people may think that it is cliché to say that they would not trade their parents for anyone else, and for many people that might truly be a cliché. But for me it is a sentiment that is entirely true, and that, my dears, is one of the greatest blessings that I have ever known. #lovebythedrop
