Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that sometimes sacrifice is necessary. As human beings we naturally want to ensure that we have what we want and need, that the world that we live in reflects the ideals that we want it to, and that we are treated the way that we believe that we should be treated. And it’s fine to want to feel as though we have a solid place in life, that our needs and wants are addressed, and that we are respected.
However, there will be times when we need to sacrifice something, be it something small or something rather substantial, in order to accomplish certain things in this life – advance to the next level in our chosen career field, obtain a higher education degree, or buy a new house. For many of us, a significant number of the things that we want in this life will require some element of sacrifice in order to obtain or achieve those things, and, believe it or not, sacrificing for the right things, in the right manner, and with the right motives leads to character-building, something that is a benefit to us all.
At the same time, we also need to make sure that we do not lose sight of the fact that this life is not solely about us. And because that is the case there will be times when we need to sacrifice things for the sake of helping others – a little bit of comfort, or maybe even those season tickets to the year’s grandest theatrical productions.
Sacrificing something, usually something that means something special to us (or else it would not really be a sacrifice), is not fun, nor is it typically easy. Yet, it is both necessary and worth it. So, when we find ourselves in situations during which we come to the realization that we need to sacrifice something, my hope is that we will remember that the sacrifices that we make for the right things, in the right manner, and with the right motives truly do make this world and us better in the process. #lovebythedrop
