Today’s Gem of Gratitude #362

Today I am thankful for brunch. I am certainly a woman who enjoys a great meal. There is no question about that, a truth that I am fairly certain that you have already gathered from reading a good number of my blog entries. One of the challenges that I face, though, is the fact that, though I like eating breakfast, I do not typically enjoy eating breakfast early in the morning. This certainly poses a challenge when I need to wake up and leave home early, because more than likely I will not want to eat breakfast that early in the morning.

Another challenge that I occasionally face is the fact that sometimes when most of us would consider it to be time for breakfast, I am just simply not in the mood for breakfast, and would instead prefer to have access to lunch items. And if I am not in the mood to eat breakfast, then being forced to do so, in a way, will likely ruin that dining experience for me.

Thankfully, though, that’s when brunch swoops in and comes to the rescue. Brunch is representative of the best of both worlds, breakfast and lunch together. So, if I want to eat breakfast items, I can do so. Or if I want to eat lunch items, I have that liberty as well. And one of the most appealing aspects associated with brunch is the fact that it generally takes place from about 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. or so, which are perfect hours for me, because they are not too early or too late. So, give me a little brunch and I am a happy lady. See, I told you that it really does not take much to make me happy. #lovebythedrop

Today’s Gem of Gratitude #361

Today I am thankful for short commutes. Though I am a lover of road trips and lengthy drives for leisure, I am not a fan of lengthy commutes, especially when those commutes need to be made on a daily basis. And though I will certainly make lengthy commutes on a regular basis if absolutely necessary, I typically jump at the opportunity to bypass frequent lengthy commutes.

Now, I do realize that some people enjoy lengthy commutes, and that others are more or less indifferent to lengthy commutes. And I also realize that many individuals who find themselves subjected to making lengthy commutes enjoy passing the time by listening to audio books, language lessons, or even talk radio, tasks that can be rather enjoyable. However, as for me, I would rather make it to where I need to go sooner rather than later so that I can jump start my day and find myself that much closer to delving back into my personal time. For some reason it has always been that way, and I have a feeling that it is not going to change any time soon. #lovebythedrop

Today I am thankful for the movie The Holiday, a movie that always reminds me to be the leading lady in my life. In fact, one of my absolute favorite parts of the film is when Arthur, an elderly gentleman writer for the golden era of Hollywood tells Kate Winslet’s character, Iris, that in Hollywood there are leading ladies and then there are best friends, and that she is certainly a leading lady who unfortunately happens to be acting like the best friend.

Unfortunately, I have come to realize that I can completely relate to the sentiment behind those words, and that every time that I watch that film I still find myself relating to it. On the fortunate side of things, though, it immediately reminds me to get myself back in gear just as a leading lady should. And then I smile and I take that step back into my starring role. #lovebythedrop
