Today I am thankful for security. Many people in this world have no idea what it is like to be able to travel through life, completing daily errands and spontaneous adventures more or less with a sense of security. They do not know what it is like to simply leave their home and walk or drive to the store and then return home without the imminent threat of being accosted or violated in some way. They have no idea what it is like to lock their doors at night with the sense that they are safe, that no person or weapon of some sort will enter into their dwelling and put their life in jeopardy. And what makes this situation for them even worse is the fact that they have absolutely no control over it.
I, thankfully, am blessed to know what it is like to feel secure in my person, in my home and in my possessions. I know what it is like to be able to make that quick trip to the store, attend a movie, or even go to a restaurant without the imminent fear that something negative will happen to me. I am fortunate to have a sense of peace and security that is with me regardless of where I am.
The number one reason that I feel so secure is because of my relationship with God. I know that He loves me and that His protection surrounds me like a shield. Another factor that adds to the sensation of security that I have is the fact that I am blessed to live in a country where that type of environment is prevalent. Of course, crimes do happen in this country, and like many people who live here I have been a victim of crime in the past. However, even with the occasional occurrences of crime that do surface, I still recognize the fact that I am secure, and that I am blessed to live in a place that in some ways makes that security possible.
When I think of the individuals in war torn countries, those who are in areas that may be poverty stricken and without adequate systems of protection, as well as those with systems in place that rob the people of their security rather than assure them of it and protect it, I am truly humbled, because were it not for the grace of God, I could be in their place. That is something that I do not take likely. And though I may not actively consider and evaluate the fact that we are fairly secure in this country, I certainly do not take it for granted. #lovebythedrop
