Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that it is essential that we have at least one finger on the pulse of what is going on in this world of ours. Like many of us, I often avoid watching the news as though it were the plague, as it tends to do little other than present a steady stream of violence and disasters relayed for the primary purpose of achieving ratings while actually neglecting to report anything of value (have you ever noticed how often reporters say that they are waiting to hear what happens, that they will provide an update once they find out what has occurred, or that it appears that “xyz” has happened, though they have yet to confirm that?) Though I know that violence and controversy exist, I also know that there is more to life than those two concepts. Hopefully, the media will wise up to that, and soon, but I digress.
Though this world does boast of an inordinate amount of violence and negativity, we will do ourselves and society a huge disservice if we refuse to stay abreast of at least some of the major issues that surface, especially since it is quite possible that those major issues may find a way to affect our lives. And who knows, making it a point to be aware of what is going on in this world might present us with the opportunity to change this world for the better, opportunities that are sorely needed. #lovebythedrop
