Today’s Gem of Gratitude #136

Today I am thankful for good surprises. Life brings with it many surprises and unexpected events, some of which are positive and some of which are negative. And though I am a firm believer that everything works together for my good, positive situations and negative situations together, I must say that I do enjoy good surprises more so than their negative counterparts.

The past few years for me have been rather trying ones in various ways, shapes, and forms. And saying that I have been busy would be a gross understatement. Some friends of mine must have picked up on my need to relax a little and experience something new. So in an effort to help me in that regard, and to do something nice for me in celebration of my birthday, they decided to treat me to a weekend getaway in a place that I had never visited before. We had a blast while dining out, enjoying the hotel amenities, shopping, and spending time with friends.

Needless to say, we had an amazing and relaxing time, something that we all needed. I must tell you that I truly had no idea about the extent of the surprise that they had planned for me. And it really turned out to be one of the best surprises that I have experienced. And while we were on our trip we encountered a few challenges, but as good sports we adapted to the situations as need be. And we were all the better for it.

In thinking about the various surprises that can and often do occur in life, the takeaway idea that I would like to leave with you is the idea that life will always contain surprises, both positive and negative. And it is up to us as human beings to embrace both types by approaching the negative surprises with a positive attitude and a spirit of perseverance and allowing ourselves to fully enjoy and appreciate the positive ones. After all, much more than beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if we look hard enough we may realize that negative surprises oftentimes yield something positive, it’s just up to us to find it. #lovebythedrop
