Today’s Gem of Gratitude #170

Today I am thankful for having a place to go home to. I think quite often about my friends and family and the place where I am from. And I have come to realize that no matter where I move to and what is going on in my life, the place where I am from, the place were many of my friends and family still live, will always be home for me.

I am fortunate that because of the love that my friends and family and I have for each other, I can always go home whenever I want to or need to do so. After having spoken with many people and hearing their stories, I realize that for many people in this world that concept does not ring true. They do not have a home to go back to, there is no love waiting for them where they are from, and that saddens me.

Like most people, I have certainly had my moments when I have taken for granted the fact that I have a wonderful and loving home to go back to – I have known that my friends and family would always be there and that if I ever needed them all I had to do was call, and that in many instances the call would not even be necessary. And I was wrong for taking that for granted, for taking them for granted.

The people who love us do so because they choose to, not because they have to. If someone says that they care for you, but it is clear that there is a sense of obligation or some ulterior motive on their part, then that’s not love. It’s something, but love it definitely is not. So, when those people who choose to love us bless us with that home to which we can always return, we must never take that for granted. They deserve better than that, much better, and there are always people who would love to be in our shoes. We must never forget that. #lovebythedrop
