Today I am thankful for the ability to be thankful and to realize that there is so much for which I should be thankful. As many of us do, I often become so involved with the hustle and bustle of this life that the days, weeks, and months at times seem to blur into one huge pool of existence. And when I finally do take a moment to come up for air, so to speak, I realize that days, sometimes even whole weeks, have gone by without me “living in the moment.”
Moments like those often provide the wakeup call that I need in order to get myself back on track by reminding me of the fact that I have temporarily lost sight of my commitment to live rather than to simply exist. I do not know about you, but I do not want to simply allow life to happen to me and around me. I want to happen to life. I want to make this life my own, to fashion it into that which it is meant to be for me, to leave my mark, and to enjoy every step of the way. And when I stop focusing on that and just allow life to do with me as it wishes, I find myself neglecting to actively express my gratefulness for the blessings in my life.
My ability to be thankful – to recognize that there are blessings that I experience everyday, many known and some unknown to me – helps me to stay humble and reminds me that though I am capable of doing many things in my own strength there is no way that I can reach my full potential without the help of others. After all, we were created to be in fellowship with each other and to have relationships with each other. And part of being in fellowship and having relationships with each other means that we are to help each other.
So, in reality, it is all a big circle – the things for which we are thankful remind us of the importance of being thankful, and the act of being thankful itself sheds light on the many things for which we should be thankful. This is the first time that I have thought about this concept in this way, and I am glad that I finally see it in this light.
As you already know by now, I am taking a little time each day to write about something for which I am thankful. And so far it has been a huge blessing to me. If you are not already doing so, I encourage all of you to take some time on a regular basis to think about the many things and people in your life for which you are thankful. It just might be the added element that you need in order to help you to stay centered, grounded, and focused on the things that really matter in this life. Be blessed. #lovebythedrop
