Today I am thankful for celebrations. Today I participated in a gathering that was planned in honor of a wonderful friend of mine who just turned 35. The get-together was a surprise, and it took place at one of my friend’s favorite places. A nice sized group of us came together to celebrate her special day, and we enjoyed ourselves as we reminisced and partook of some tasty gelato.
Anyone observing us could tell that we were happy to be there spending time with our friend, laughing and talking for hours on end. And after taking a few pictures we said our “see you later’s” while giving each other hugs. And the huge smile that was on my friend’s face was a testament to how much she truly appreciated us taking the time to plan and participate in this special event with her.
And though I was not one of the ones who actually planned this event for my friend, it meant a lot to me to be able to participate in this event and to demonstrate to my friend how much I care for and appreciate her.
Those few hours that we spent with her today were priceless. In just those few moments we demonstrated to her how much we truly appreciate her, care for her, and that she really is very important to us. And, no, this was not the first time that we have spent time with her, been there for her, and supported her, but it was another opportunity for us to demonstrate to her that she holds a very special place in our hearts and in our lives.
We all have busy lives and millions of things to do on a daily basis, yet the opportunity and ability to celebrate with others should never be placed on the back burner. After all, we are all fighting our own battles and we never know when the people who share our lives with us need us the most. And sometimes what they truly need the most is to know that we will gladly lift a spoon, glass, or whatever finds its way into our hands in celebration of their moments of joy, success, and triumph. Besides, a little bit of support, encouragement, and appreciation goes a long way in a world where everyone needs a little bit of love every day. #lovebythedrop
