Today’s Gem of Gratitude #225

Today I am thankful that I am a person who is driven. The dictionary defines “drive” as “energy and initiative.” For as long as I can remember I have been a person who has possessed both energy and initiative, and I have also loved to be around people who are driven and motivated. There is something about the positive energy that they emit that seems to be contagious. And I do not know about you, but when I am around people who are driven I often find myself inspired and rejuvenated, which is the complete opposite of what I experience when I am around people who lack drive and ambition.

For instance, have you ever noticed that when you are around people who lack drive and ambition you start to sense a force that is pulling you down, emotionally and mentally, and then after you have spent a significant amount of time with them their lack motivation has somehow rubbed off onto you? I have experienced that, only I did not realize that that was what was happening at the time. I would just leave their presence shaking my head, wondering why all of a sudden I felt drained and empty. Eventually, I came to the realization that I was feeling that way in large part due to the people with whom I was spending time.

Needless to say, I try to be more careful about whom I choose to spend time with and allow into my circle, because I am on a mission that leaves no room for complacency and lack of motivation or ambition. Now, that does not mean that I expect everyone to be exactly like me – sharing the same dreams and desires, taking the same path. But I do prefer to surround myself with people who are actively working on going somewhere positive, literally and figuratively. After all, as the infamous “they” are often quoted as saying, “show me your friends and I will show you where you are going.” #lovebythedrop
