Today’s Gem of Gratitude #19

Today I am thankful for the ability to live. Most people will likely say that they are appreciative of the fact that they are alive, and that is certainly the case for me as well. However, what I am referring to in this post is the ability to live – to truly make the most of the life that I have been blessed with, rather than settle for merely existing. There is a huge difference between living and just being alive/existing.

Existing requires a more passive effort, whereas a person who is determined to live must make a concerted effort to live life to the fullest. And believe it or not, the decision to live versus exist is not one that hinges upon one’s social standing, financial state, location, or ethnic background. It is entirely dependent upon the person’s desire and motivation to truly live.

What does living versus existing look like? I’m glad you asked. Existing is waking up each day, taking care of the basic responsibilities of the day and then going to bed just to wake up the next day and do it all over again. Now, please do not misunderstand me. Taking care of your basic daily responsibilities is very important, and I do understand that it can sometimes be a challenge to do so, for various reasons. What I am saying here is not meant to make light of that challenge in any way. However, living is waking up each day and asking “what can I do for others today? how can I engage people today? how can I move past the limits imposed upon my life today so as to make the absolute best of this day?” and then go out and do it. It’s all about perspective, decision, and action.

I encourage all of you to go out and live on purpose each day. You will be surprised at the difference it makes in your life. And as always feel free to let me know how it goes. #lovebythedrop
