Today’s Gem of Gratitude #294

Hand holding a Social Media 3d Sphere

Today I am thankful for social media. I will be the first one to admit that there are some inherent downsides that accompany the use of social media, which, if I took the time to list out every one of them, it would likely take quite a while to do so. However, the negative aspects associated with the use of social media are not the primary focus of my entry today, but I do want to acknowledge their existence as a reminder to us all of the importance of governing ourselves accordingly.

Despite there being negative aspects associated with the use of social media, the positive aspects associated with its use are prevalent and beneficial. Some such positives are social media’s ability to connect people with each other throughout the world, to communicate in manner that is practically instantaneous, and to share just about any information that one wishes to share whenever one wants to do so. There is a sense of freedom that is associated with that, albeit a freedom that does carry with it substantial responsibilities.

I thoroughly appreciate the fact that I can share my thoughts and interact with people who make their homes throughout the world, people whom I may or may not have actually made their acquaintance. Though travelling is something that I enjoy and always want to do more of, it many not always be feasible for me to travel to the many places to which I want to go throughout the world, whenever I wish to do so. Yet, thanks to social media, I can at least allow a portion of my self – my thoughts, wishes, and sentiments – to make that trip even when I cannot physically do so myself. And when facilitated in a manner that is responsible and reasonable, communication via social media effectively expands the reach of the human heart, mind, and soul, all while leaving lasting footprints on the human condition. #lovebythedrop
