Today I am thankful for fearless leaders – both past and present. I sit here today thinking about the life that I have, the options and opportunities that I now possess, the future that I now have to look forward to and I am keenly aware of the sacrifices that fearless leaders have made and are making so that I could and can have this life, these options and opportunities and that future.
I think about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, and most important to me, my mother. Each of these leaders has had to battle more than their share of controversy, yet they did it with eloquence, dignity, respect, compassion, integrity, and honor. And they never allowed that battle to slow them down or stop them. They each, in their own way, have in some way, shape, or form served to shape my life and the lives of countless others, and for that I am thankful. I would not be who I am were it not for them. So today I salute them and I thank them for being the example and change that was and is needed. #lovebythedrop
