Today’s Gem of Gratitude #273

Today I am thankful for the fact that I am not afraid to do things and go places by myself. Like many of us, I have a tendency to enjoy certain activities as a part of a group, be it attending conferences, luncheons and meetings, going to the movies or going out to dinner, etc. Some activities just seem to be more fun when you do them with a buddy or a group.

However, I decided long ago that I was not going to allow the fact that I did not have someone who was available or wanted to do something with me that I want to do to dissuade me from doing whatever activities that I want to do. And since making that determination I have gone to the movies by myself, gone to dinner or lunch by myself, attended conferences, meetings, and luncheons by myself, and even taken road trips by myself. And in making a concerted effort to go ahead and do the things that I want to do regardless of whether or not I have company with me, I have discovered many things about myself and my abilities, as well as experienced a sense of freedom that I never would have known had I always limited myself to participating in activities as a group.

So, if you ever find yourself struggling to decide between doing something solo that you want to do or waiting until you have someone who will agree to do whatever it is with you, I encourage you to go for it and enjoy yourself by yourself. If the only thing that is holding you back is a fear of or concern about doing something alone, then put that fear or concern behind you (as long as the activity that you are wanting to do is one that is safe and responsible, of course) and go and have a good time. I have a feeling that you will come to realize that no company compares to yours anyway. #lovebythedrop
