Today’s Gem of Gratitude #47

Today I am thankful for good health. As adolescents or teenagers, most of us probably did not give much thought to our health unless we experienced significant health problems or issues. We knew that we typically felt well, despite experiencing the occasional cold or flu, and were in a position to enjoy life without any perceived physical limitations.

However, as we have grown older we have realized that the possession of good health is a blessing. There are so many people in this world who deal with health-related issues on a daily basis, whether they are debilitating and terminal, or merely tedious and uncomfortable. And in many of these situations those dealing with these health problems often do not have a choice in the matter of whether or not that health problem continues to be an issue in their life.

I consider this subject matter on a regular basis as I take note of the experiences of my loved ones, as well as strangers, and it serves as a reminder to me to be consistently thankful for the fact that I have good health. I do not have to take daily medications. I do not have to seek medical treatment on a regular basis. I am in possession of all of my faculties and all of my senses are functioning properly. And my health does not impose any limitations upon my life. As I consider that, I cannot help but count myself blessed.

In addition to arriving at the realization that possessing good health is a blessing, I have also come to realize that it is not enough for me to simply acknowledge that good health is important and beneficial. I must also ensure that I am actively taking steps to maintain my good health, an area in which I sometimes fall short. Thankfully, however, it’s never too late to get one’s act together. So, I am committing myself to focusing more diligently on this aspect of my life. After all, I only have one body, and when this one body is gone my time will be up. And I do not know about you, but I am not in any hurry to leave this life, and I want all of my time here on this planet, while living this life, to be the absolute best that it can be.

How about you? How important is having good health to you? #lovebythedrop
