Today’s Gem of Insight #164

Today’s insight journey led me to the idea that checking in with ourselves on a regular basis is absolutely necessary.

With the world moving as fast as it is, so much being expected of us, and so many responsibilities on our shoulders, we often do well to keep everything moving forward and make it through the day.

And though that is a monumental success (kudos to us!) in and of itself, what about the us that becomes neglected, shoved down inside, or even lost in the process?

Are we making and taking the time to find out how we’re feeling, what we’re thinking, you know, how we’re really doing? Are we considering whether we are satisfied with this or that, fulfilled, and content? Are we evaluating whether we are on the path that we should be on and fulfilling our purpose and calling?

Are we seeing ourselves?

I mean really taking stock of who we are, what we need and desire, and who we are meant to be in this moment?

As I write this I’m realizing that I’m not doing a good job of this myself, and I imagine that I might not be the only one.

So, what do we do about this?

Well, I imagine that will likely look and feel different for each of us. Some of us might benefit from scheduling some meaningful time with ourselves each day to weigh in so to speak, which could be as little as five minutes a day at bedtime or even first thing in the morning.

Others of us might find that we function best when we meet with a licensed therapist on a regular basis to facilitate the process of meeting with ourselves.

And still others might prefer to talk things out with their trusted loved ones, spend time reading books that prompt necessary introspection, or even use their exercise time to exercise their mind, spirit, and soul too.

Whatever we choose to do, whatever works for us, let’s do that and ensure that who we are, what we need and want, and what we’re meant to do on this earth don’t become ancient artifacts. Too much was sacrificed for us so that we could be who we’re meant to be, live as we’re meant to live, and do what we’re meant to do.

And as we take better care of ourselves we will be better able to care well for others, and that’s the real win-win. Be blessed. #lovebythedrop

  1. Well said! Work and caring for others can take over our self care time if we do not find a way to balance how we give ourselves to these things.
